SPOILER ALERT!

Review: Heir of Fire By: Sarah J. Maas

Heir of Fire - Sarah J. Maas

This book was simply amazing! It took the series to a whole new level.

Dorian's continued practice with his magic, his new girlfriend Sorcha. Chaol coming to terms with magic and having to accept it, getting involved in the rebellion! Finally taking a stand against the king. Celaena's new "friend" Rowan. (who stole my heart!) Practicing controlling her Fae powers. And there are so many more creepy bits, evil creatures from other worlds, witch's who are gathering together. So much happened!

(show spoiler)

This book drew me in hook, line, and sinker! I was reading during every spare moment I had. The split point of view's was a nice surprise that we didn't have with the last books. The new characters are very well done and I loved them all! I cried, I laughed, I sobbed and I fell in love. This series has left me feeling so many things! I cannot wait for the next book to come out in September (Queen of Shadows!) Recommending this to anyone who will listen! Thank you so much for reading!

3. Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice-Jane Austen) (He is just perfection)

Review: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Ann Shaffer, Annie Barrows

This book is written as a series of letters from a female author to those she is close with and new friends. The book is set just after WWII and it is all about this author who receives a letter from a man on the island of Guernsey. He talks about how they started a literary society during the war and how he was given a book second hand that had once belonged to her. Through their correspondence this young woman falls in love with the island of Guernsey and all of the characters who live there.

Personal Thoughts: I think this book is adorable! I loved the main character's personality, I thought she was witty, and quite cheeky, but I adored her. I love the whole idea of the story and how it isn't your usual love story. While the author does fall in love, that isn't the focus, it is all about her growing love for the island. I loved the characters, I feel like they are all very well done, they are well balanced and complement each other nicely! I did get a little bored halfway through, but it definitely picks up once you hit the second part of the book.

Altogether I enjoyed this book! I wish it wasn't as long winded in part one. I also feel like I have a reading slump coming on...which I am not happy about! Thanks so much for reading!

So true...
Reblogged from Susana "Lost in Fantasy Land":

There are a lot of people like me...

Review: The Nowhere Emporium by: Ross MacKenzie

The Nowhere Emporium (Kelpies) - Ross MacKenzie

A BIG thanks so Netgalley, more specifically Myrick Marketing and Media, LLC.

This book will be available for purchase on May 18, 2015

From the first page I was reminded of The Night Circus. In some ways the two books are very similar. In other ways The Nowhere Emporium is unique. I really loved the concept behind the Emporium.

This book is about a young man who discovers the Nowhere Emporium by accident. He returns the next day much to the surprise of the proprietor, Lucien Silver. The boy becomes an apprentice for Silver and begins to learn the secrets of the Emporium, but Lucien Silver has secrets of his own. A very dire turn of events leaves the young boy searching for  a way to save the Emporium and those he loves the most.

This book was very well written. The characters are all very detailed. The world-building within the Emporium is very in depth, very enthralling.

I actually like the similarities between this book and The Night Circus, much to my surprise. The storyline between the two are similar. The details and characters do differ. While The Night Circus has much more obvious use of magic The Nowhere Emporium has a hint of magical mystery about it. The Nowhere Emporium is directed at a younger demographic as opposed to The Night Circus which is adult fiction. I will definitely be recommending this book! Thanks so much for reading!

The Night Circus by: Erin Morgenstern-Review

The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern

This book is about 2 young magicians who are involved in a "game" for their lives. The stage? The stage is a circus, The Night Circus. This is the tale of what happens when the 2 magicians fall in love.

This book was enchanting! I went in expecting a romance and what I got was so much better! There is romance involved, but it isn't over the top, it is perfectly done. This story is all about the members of the circus and how they interact with each other and with the circus.

The story is broken up into parts. The story starts with the reader walking  through the circus. All throughout the book there are breaks between chapters. These breaks are all written from the point of view of the reader as you walk through the circus. The chapters almost become flashbacks to the 2 magicians. The world-building is captivating as are the characters.

The characters are all so unique, as is the story itself. I applaud Morgenstern for her ingenuity. The air of mystery lingers throughout the whole book. I wouldn't say that this story is fast paced, but it isn't too slow, it moves at the just the right rate to keep you interested and turning the next page. The vivid descriptions of the circus itself made it easy to picture and the details are impeccable.

I will recommend this book to everyone! This will definitely be on my re-read list! Thanks so much for reading!

Social Media Book Tag

Voyage on the Great Titanic: The Diary of Margaret Ann Brady, R.M.S. Titanic 1912 (Dear America Series) - Ellen Emerson White The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald The Tale of Despereaux - Timothy Basil Ering, Kate DiCamillo Twilight - Stephenie Meyer The Phantom of the Opera - Gaston Leroux, Alexander Teixeira de Mattos Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen, Anna Quindlen Throne of Glass - Sarah J. Maas Mistborn: The Final Empire - Brandon Sanderson The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis, Pauline Baynes

I found this tag on spinesandcovers.com. All the questions are based around Social Media. This is my first tag, so lets jump right on into it!

Twitter-Your favorite short book (I had to put a lot of thought into this one!)

I think I would pick...A Voyage on the Great Titanic by: Ellen Emerson White. I can finish this one in a day and I love the diary format!

Facebook: A book everyone pressured you to read (I am normally the one pressuring my friends so this is hard!)

The Great Gatsby by: F. Scott Fitzgerald (Note: I was pressured to read the book about the time the movie came out. This is a rare case in which, I adored the movie, but I hated the book.) This was such a letdown to read. I had such high hopes and then they were dashed upon the rocks!

Tumblr: A book you read before it was cool

I don't think this counts, but I read The Tale of Despereaux by: Kate DiCamillo before it was movie...Read this one in second grade and have re-read it several times!

MySpace: A book you can't remember if you liked or not

I can never remember if I liked Twilight by: Stephanie Meyer or if I hated it. (Maybe I should re-read it and find out?!)

Instagram: A Book that was so beautiful you had to Instagram it.

The only books I posted on my Instagram were pictures of The Phantom of the Opera by: Gaston Leroux and Pride and Prejudice by: Jane Austen (They weren't beautiful editions...but they were $0.99 which is kinda the same thing!)

You-tube: A book you wish would be turned into a movie (Ergh! This is hard!)

I guess I would pick Throne of Glass by: Sarah J. Maas (Just to watch Celaena kick butt!)

Goodreads: A book you recommend to everyone

I just recommended this series to a friend on Goodreads (Hey friend! You know who you are!! :D ) I would recommend the Mistborn Trilogy by: Brandon Sanderson to everyone who will listen!

Skype: A book with characters that you wish you could talk to instead of just reading about

I'm gonna go with the four kids in The Chronicles of Narnia by: C.S. Lewis (I know this is weird...but I had a huge crush on Peter Pevensie when I was a kid!)

That's all of the questions I have for this one. Thanks so much for reading!

Review: The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by: Leslye Walton

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender - Leslye Walton

I was so excited for this book! So, I picked it up from my library app(Overdrive). I was trembling with anticipation as I read the first couple of words! The writing is intoxicating and just when I thought I had fallen in love (BOOM!). It took a turn for the worst. To my dismay, I had to put this book down. While the writing style has a poetic, dreamlike quality the story itself is terrible. The beautiful writing masked a depressing story line  that just wasn't working for me. I really wish I could have stuck it out. Out of pity I gave it one star, I felt like giving it a half a star. I made it 6 or 7 chapters into it. I'm a little ashamed that I couldn't push through it. Oh well! I'm headed off on my next literary adventure! Thanks so much for reading!

How Reading Formats Affect my Monthly TBR

Affect? Effect? I always get them confused! Moving on...

I do a ton, literally a TON of e-reading. I am always adding to my e-book collection by downloading books from Kindle, Kobo, and Google Books. I use an app through my library to borrow e-books, and I stuff my Aldiko reading app with epub files found on several different websites. In my reading folder on the homepage of my phone you will find 6 reading apps.

-Aldiko (epub files) (My personal favorite!)

-Oodles Free Ebooks (Public Domain e-books, that also loads epub files) (I never use this one)

-Google Books (I use this one for all of my classics. Most of them are free on Google Play)

-Kindle (I receive daily emails with lists of free and reduced price Kindle Books so I have quite a collection) (Fun Fact: I have never purchased a single Kindle book they have all been free)

-Kobo Books ( This is one that I rarely use, although, I do have quite a collection (All of the books I own through this app were free.)

-Overdrive Library (My library set this up recently and I have definitely taken advantage of it! You can borrow e-books and audiobooks)

Normally, I would use my Aldiko app all of the time. I would use Kindle once in a blue moon, Overdrive specifically for audiobooks, and Kobo has been used once or twice in the last year(If that...). In March, I decided that I wanted to start alternating the apps I use. When April started I had a plan in place:

Start with an Aldiko book (I chose Mistborn: The Final Empire)

Then, read a physical copy (I do get tired of e-reading and need a break, there is nothing like the feel of a real book in your hand!)

Next, was a Kindle Book (I chose a Phantom of the Opera modernized fan-fiction)

Then, I went to overdrive (I read Jackaby)

This still left some apps out of the loop, but since that was first month there is time to rectify. I also decided that this month I don't have to use the apps in any particular order. This month I started with Overdrive (The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender) I am hoping to add in Kobo and Google Reads this month, too. I don't know how far I will get into my TBR picks this month with finals looming around the corner. (The Horror!) Hopefully my reading will pick up once summer starts! Thanks for taking the time to read this!

May TBR

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender - Leslye Walton The Book Thief - Markus Zusak Looking for Alaska - John Green Heir of Fire - Sarah J. Maas Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder (Movie Tie-in) (Hannah Swensen Mysteries) - Joanne Fluke The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern

These are just a few books I am hoping to read this month. I might read all of them or a few of them. Who knows?! I may even read some that aren't on the list.

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by: Leslye Walton-Heard a lot about this book mainly from book-tube! (I'm pretty sure it was PeruseProject that made it sound so good!) I have started it and I am loving the writing style, it is exquisite, but the story itself is a little strange. (See what I did there! I swear I am a genius sometimes!) That was a pretty bad pun, forgive me! This book just sounds so poetic I am entranced!

The Book Thief by: Markus Zusak- I watched the movie with my Nanna (Bless her! We both cried like babies! The feels are strong with this one!!) I have a soft spot for books based around the first and second world war whether they are fiction or non! I can't believe I haven't read it before, but I am super excited that I will finally get to it!

Looking for Alaska by: John Green- I really don't think this need a description of why I am excited to read it. It is a John Green book therefore I will be reading it without question! Team internet all the way!

Heir of Fire by: Sarah J. Maas- This is the third book in the Throne of Glass series. I read the first two consecutively, but stopped when I started Mistborn: The Final Empire (I mentioned this book in my April Wrap-up) Can't wait to finish the series. The next book comes out this year and my inner fangirl is screaming with delight!

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by: Joanne Fluke- I love this series it is a mix of wit, sass, crime, and my all time favorite DESSERT!! (If you weren't hooked before you are now!) These are such easy reads and I cannot wait to re-start the series!

The Night Circus by: Erin Morgenstern- I actually started this book while babysitting (I was bored out of my mind!) Instead of turning to Netflix (My second love!) I picked up this book and I fell in love! The writing style is superb, I was instantly addicted. I did ultimately put it down because of school and I had the rest of my April TBR to focus on. This is a definite read this month!

In addition, I will try to read at least one kindle book and pick one title out of my TBR jar.

Thanks for reading!

Have a fabulous day lovelies!
